You can't miss the giant ferris wheel as you walk towards the Paradise Pier inside California Adventure. There are two ways to ride the fun wheel, you can go on a swinging gondola and a non-swinging gondola.
The line for the fun wheel can be very long, especially the side with the swinging gondolas. The side with the swinging gondolas loads on the ferris wheel twice as fast as the non-swinging side. For every one non-swinging gondola loading, there are two swinging ones loading at the same time on the opposite side.
All of the red gondolas are non-swinging gondolas. My son and I rode the non-swinging because he didn't want to move up in the air. I have to admit, the swinging ones look pretty gnarly.
The line for the non-swinging gondolas seems a lot shorter than the one for the swinging gondolas but it's really not considering they load them two at a time. It took awhile for us to actually get on the ride. It said a five minute wait but in reality it took about fifteen before we we're on the ride seated.
When you ride Mickey's Fun Wheel you go around one time in a complete circle and the second circle is passengers loading and unloading. The ride takes about 15 minutes to go all the way around twice because you have to wait for people to get on and off the wheel.
From the top of the ferris wheel you can see the whole park but you can't take good pictures because of the all the little wire bars keeping you inside the gondola. We had to share our gondola with another family because there were only two of us but you can request to have your own because I saw a young couple in front of us do it.
